Mahelat Negussu
Mahelat was born in July 1995 in Addis Ababa. She didn’t know her father and has a sister and a brother from the same mother but both from different fathers. Before her mother died she lived with my grandmother, sister and brother. She doesn’t know anything about her father except the things she overheard. They told her that her mom and father had a fight and he finally left her. Her mom had to bear the burden of raising her, my sister and brother alone. While she was in 3rd grade at age 8 her mother got sick and died.
Mahelat says: “My mother was everything for me I don’t have enough words to express her goodness the love she had for her children she is willing to give up everything for her kids. What I know is women or a mother is kind and men or fathers are evil - this I got from the way my mother and father treated me I’m sorry I can’t think otherwise. God is not like men he had a plan for me otherwise I would not live. He protects me and cares for me wherever I go and puts good opportunities on my way”. Mahelat would love to finish school and become an engineer and make her country beautiful. She would also love to help children who go through the same problems she went through.
