Mahelat Tekie
Mahelat, born in 1993 in a town called Jijiga, lost her father when she was two. She lived in Jijiga with her mother for three years until they came to Addis and started to live with her aunty, although this didn’t work out, and her mother rented their own house and remarried. Her stepfather drank and in Mahelat’s words, the family had no peace. Her mother died and Mahelat continued to live with her stepfather, an erratic life, sometimes good and sometimes bad and difficult.
Mahelat says: “I came to this place through friends of my mom who heard about this place; here I found mothers and sisters. I am in seventh grade now I’m 14 years old my future plan is to support orphan children and I also want to serve the Lord in the church.” |
